CODE OF CONDUCT

In 2015, WISTA International implemented a Code of Conduct. Did you know that? Here are a few lines of the Code of Conduct, which we think is crucial for our Association.

“The success of WISTA is dependent on the trust and confidence we earn from our members and the industry at large. We gain credibility by adhering to our commitments, displaying honesty and integrity, and reaching our goals through honorable conduct.”

Our Core Values, Vision, and Mission

  1. Members of WISTA’s NWAs shall be honest and treat all members with dignity and respect.
  2. Members of WISTA’s NWAs shall respect the opinions of members, as well as the cultural differences amongst members.
  3. Members of WISTA’s NWAs shall work together cooperatively for the betterment of the Association and will not use WISTA for their own personal gain to the detriment of the Association.
  4. Members of WISTA’s NWAs shall strive to be known by the maritime industry as fair, honest, diligent, hardworking, and caring people with integrity.
  5. WISTA shall endeavor to advance the interests of women in the maritime industry and promote an exchange of contacts and experiences among the members of its NWAS, which could lead to new business and new business relationships.
  6. WISTA supports the founding of new NWAs to broaden networking opportunities and encourages cooperation among neighboring NWAs and regions, including sharing best practices and ideas to help all NWAs grow and be successful, for everyone’s benefit.
  7. Members of WISTA’s NWAs shall strive to be professional, dynamic, open-minded, and committed in all aspects of their professional and personal lives.

“National WISTA Associations are strongly encouraged to incorporate this Code of Conduct into their national codes and take appropriate action if they become aware of any breaches of this Code of Conduct by their members.”

The initial meeting of women working as tanker brokers in England for the New Year’s dinner in 1974 turning into regular meetings in order to exchange professional ideas and experiences laid the foundation for WISTA (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association). In a very short period of time, an organization of 25 participants made the necessary steps to form an official association and became one of the most reputable and recognized associations in marine sector in Europe. Nowadays this association is active in more than 20 countries.

On 29th and 30th of May of 2009 all the board members of WISTA International were in Turkey in order to support the Turkish women from different areas of marine sector who have been working for a long time to establish a WISTA branch in Turkey. WISTA decided to hold this year’s annual board meeting in Turkey on 29th of May in order to support the newly founded WISTA TURKEY.

The main goal of the association is to allow women working in this industry to share their day-to-day problems, experiences and ideas by creating solidarity. Since the members of this organization come from diverse areas of the marine sector, the opportunity and freedom of seeing someone else’s point of view on various events is provided.

The foundation process of WISTA TURKEY was completed on July 17th, 2009 and the members have accelerated the process for the preparation of the WISTA TURKEY presentation that will be made at the WISTA 2009 Annual Meeting between the 16th and 18th of September, 2009 in London.
